Nice Peter and My Move to Southern California

This morning I watched this video from Nice Peter and it inspired me to pick back up with this blog.  I haven’t felt like I have had much to write about that is interesting, but after watching Nice Peter’s video it made me think, maybe someone out there is wondering what I’m up to just like I was wondering about where he had been and what adventures he had been up to.

The biggest news is that I have moved from Northern to Southern California.  I went from working in a forest of giant trees to a desert filled with Joshua Trees.  It’s been a huge change, but all for the better.  I’m now working for Mojave National Preserve and am learning a TON of new things.  I’m also a lot closer to family down here so that is a big plus.

I’ve gone on a few road trips since I have been here, but nothing that I have felt was blog worthy.  I made a couple of trips to Vegas, which is only 2 hours from me now.  One trip was to pick up furniture for my new place and the second was to see the Goddamn Gallows play at the Dive Bar.  I also made a trip down to Lake Elsinore (a hour south of me) to see The Urban Pioneers play at Lucky’s Tavern.  Lake Elsinore seems like a cool little town and I hope I have a chance to explore it more.  I’m excited that there is so much music so nearby.  I felt a little cut off up in the Redwoods.  I loved my park up there and loved the people, but the lifestyle was a little lacking for me.

So now that I have been inspired once again I hope to keep up with this.  I have a new job, and am working on getting my bachelors degree so of course adding one more “assignment” to my to-do list seems perfectly reasonable to me.   I think I am going to follow Nice Peter’s lead and try for a once a week posting.  I guess we will all see how it goes.  For now I will leave you with a few pictures from my new park.  Enjoy!

Close-up Theme Thursday

This is supposed to be a close-up portrait theme, but I never follow the rules so why start now.  Besides, I don’t know anyone here well enough to start taking close-up pictures of and I already used the cat for a portrait picture last week.    So this week I give you close-ups of plants!

As always, make sure you head on over to California to Korea to see the rest of the Theme Thursday submissions.  Micaela also has a little announcement in her post today that is pretty exciting!

Catchlights Theme Thursday

This weeks theme was catchlights.  What are catchlights, you ask? A catchlight is the “light source that causes a spectacular highlight in a subject’s eye in an image.”  I don’t know about spectacular, but here is my effort for the week…

I love this picture.  I feel like he is saying, “Really, Human? Don’t you have better things to do with your life?”

I’m sure if you head on over to California to Korea you will see a much better representation of catchlights than this.

I did go out hiking this past week and have some great photos to share next week for our close-up Theme Thursday, so stay tuned!

Throwback Theme Thursday

This past week has been pretty rough for me.  I’ve been struggling to keep up with my statistics class (just a note to all of you who are thinking of taking statistics online….DON’T DO IT! It’s HARD!) so all of my free time has gone to homework and the rest of it to sleep.  For some reason I can’t stay awake past 9:00 pm this week.  Maybe it’s all the statistics.

My point of all this rambling is that I didn’t get around to taking any photos for Theme Thursday this past week.  I had planned on hiking yesterday after work to incorporate the Redwoods with the theme, but a change in carpooling didn’t allow that.  So instead of being a huge flake like I usually am with this blog, I decided to suck it up and contribute SOMETHING this week.  I am determined to get back on some sort of schedule with my posts.  So here we go….

Theme Thursday this Thursday is Same Photo, Different Angles.

While trying to figure out what pictures I already had in my files that could work for this week, I remembered my Folder of Matt.  A long time ago, in a town far away (Fresno), I was bored  and had a camera and decided to torment Matt by taking a million pictures while he played guitar.

It actually turned out to be a pretty spectacular set of pictures that I swore I would make a flip-book out of one day.  Guess what? I never did that either.  I suck at doing things.

So back to Theme Thursday….

Instead of One Photo, Different Angles I give you; One Matt, different Angles:

If you click on the collage it will take you to the full set of photos from that day.

Theme Thursday – Sun Flare and Starbursts

Okay, okay, so the theme today is really just sun flare, but I got an awesome starburst photo that I have to share and Micaela over at California to Korea DID say there were no rules.

I want to thank Micaela for bringing back Theme Thursday and forcing me to pick up my camera and the blog again.  I’ve been super busy with my new job and going to school full time that I haven’t had a chance to do much here.  Theme Thursday also got me over to Hammond Trail to see my first sunset over the ocean since I have been here!

So without further ado, I give you starbursts and sun flare:

This one is my favorite!

This one is actually a cell phone picture that I took while bored when I was living at RV Park. This isn’t a filter. It’s all sunlight.

December Ten on Ten

Within five minutes of waking up today, I was having a bad day.  I was actually grateful that today was Ten on Ten day.  It forced me to find beautiful things through-out the day.

It may be foggy, but it’s still beautiful where I live.

A little dark and gloomy, but still beautiful.

What is beautiful about stacks of paper? 1. They kept me busy for most of the morning and 2. I'm done with them!

A Look Back at October and November

I completely spaced my October review so we are going to combine two months in this post.  Let’s see if I can remember everything that has happened the last couple of months!

Lets start off with an overview of jobs.

October started off with me rejoining the workforce.  I got a seasonal job with Bath and Body Works, but only worked a few shifts before I got offered a temporary job with Central California Regional Obesity Prevention Program (CCROPP).  The CCROPP position only lasted two weeks, but by the time the assignment had ended I had landed a job with the Raisin Administrative Committee where I am their new Mail-room Coordinator.  Lacy is still waiting for her job at the IRS to start again for the season and in the meantime is working a seasonal position at Target and doing temp work.

Now, lets continue this post with pictures to show what’s been going on besides work!

I visited Oakhurst in October and got this great shot:

I was Spider-Man for Halloween at work.  This half-ass costume is brought to you by; getting rid of all of your belongings to travel and coming home with a Spider-Man hoodie that someone gave you.  10302214_10205167712178106_7712316589793790954_n

I went to Sacramento and stayed in my favorite hotel right by Capitol Park. 10406622_10205209423420861_9029021630219335831_n

I fell while walking in Downtown Fresno.  Luckily my face caught my fall!  It was just a scratch and a giant bump on my head, but I was fine.  I’m pretty sure I tripped over flat ground too.  1956933_10205268590059990_8616468709367468391_o

I had a housesitting job in November watching this cutie.  His name is Henry and he is the sweetest dog in the world.  November2014 005

Henry wants me to hurry up and finish with the pictures so we can play! November2014 012

I also had a birthday in November and made the decision to sell the Ramblin’ Van.  One has nothing to do with the other except for they both happened in November.  The Ramblin’ Van is not sold yet, but it hopefully will be soon.  That will be a post for another time though.

That should be it for October and November.  Bring on December!
